The Solo Parent’s ReadMe File

Essential Documentation for the “Triple Life” OS If you’ve ever downloaded a new piece of software or joined a project on GitHub, the first thing you look for is the README.md. It tells you what the project does, how to install it, and—most importantly—what to do when it inevitably breaks. As a solo parent juggling an IT career, freelance gigs, and a teenager in the province, I realized I’ve never actually published my own documentation. New people enter my life

Science High School Entrance Reviewers

Getting X ready for high school! Our goal is to get him into Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial Dumaguete Science High School. (Seriously, wala nay mas taas pa ani? LOL!) J and I are both Science High alumni, so of course, I want X to go there too. Damay-damay na ang tanan, he has to take the entrance exam! If he doesn’t get in, I’ll need to explore other options. I’m leaning towards public school, but honestly, the thought of him

Covid19 Vaccination for Kids (Xavy)

Vaccination for kids aged 5 – 12 started last month. As of writing, Pfizer is the only authorized vaccine for this age bracket. I got the Johnson & Johnson shot last July, about a month after I got Covid19. I also had Moderna for my booster shot last December. Xavy and I are both asthmatic. When I got Covid19, my asthma was not that bad however I struggled so much with anxiety. Xavy however used to have worse attacks when

Getting a Solo Parent ID

Mabibilang lang siguro the number of people who really want to become solo parents right from the start. Majority of the millions of solo parents (there’s about 14 million solo parents in the country, according National Institutes of Health data) probably became solo parents because of  the various circumstances in their lives, and not by choice. Being a solo parent is a huge task – my favorite line most days is “fuck my life”. There’s just no end to it. When

Financial support from Xavy’s dad

So I just wanna clear things out about getting financial support from Xavy’s dad. Coz some of his friends and family seem to think he’s being “responsible” and all and I am the one keeping his son away from him. Although yes, I don’t want Xavy growing up with the kind of environment his family has so as much as possible, I don’t want any influences from them on my son. I’m going to start off with the month he

The Real Struggles of Being a Single Mom (2014)

Some days, getting through it is the only plan you have. Those few days were brutal. I was juggling three jobs at the same time — one full-time, two online — and Xavy’s father was sending only ₱5,000 a month, which wasn’t even half of what Xavy actually needed. That month he was weeks late with it too, which pushed everything to the edge. At one point I had ₱200 left and Xavy’s milk and diapers were only going to

Solo Parent’s benefits as recognized by law!

I am sure not a lot of solo parents are aware that there is such thing as RA 8972 also known as the “Solo Parent’s Welfare Act of 2000”. Oh well, there is. And if it wasn’t for one of my colleagues who has been exercising this right, I wouldn’t have known either. So according to Atty. Nikki Jimeno on Smart Parenting, Republic Act 8972, or the “Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000”, was enacted to provide a comprehensive program of

Demanding Support From Xavier’s Dad

So after Xavier’s dad left and his family has openly accepted that he’s fucking the second cousin, I have decided to take things legally. Of course I will not allow Xavier to grow up in a screwed up environment thinking that it’s okay to fuck your second cousin (and yes I have proof that they actually did it in 12/27). Every father who abandoned his child has a LEGAL and MORAL obligation to support his child even if there is

14 Months with Xavier

Around 14 months of age, your little one will be mastering those gross motor skills. Of course, that’s not too tough to imagine since he has been practicing every moment he isn’t asleep. While you may stay busy keeping him off stairs, out of cabinets and from danger in general this is a good stage for distracting your child while working on fine motor skills. Help your child go from merely dumping objects from containers to sorting small items into
