Alright, so I just finished “Everlasting Longing,” and honestly? It’s a bit of a mixed bag. Like, imagine ordering a fancy cake and getting a slightly lopsided cupcake instead. That’s kinda how I feel.
First off, it’s based on a book called “The Stolen Bride,” but they went rogue with the adaptation. Like, way off. The original title, “Xiang Si Ling,” hints at this beautiful story of longing between lovers, but the drama kinda… misses the mark. And let’s be real, the amount of forced marriages in this thing? Yikes. Blackmail as a romantic plot device? Hard pass.
The Story: A Hot Mess Express?
We’re in this fictional world with three kingdoms, and our heroine, Jun Qi Luo, is a genius businesswoman pretending to be a dude. She’s also a secret weapon maker! She heads to another kingdom to find a special rock, meets a hot general (Xuan Lie), and they fall for each other. But then, her king’s like, “Come back or your family’s toast!” And Xuan Lie gets forced into another marriage. Talk about drama!
The Characters: Some Shine, Some… Don’t
- Jun Qi Luo/Jun Fei Fan (Angelababy): She’s supposed to be smart and strong, but Angelababy’s acting? Let’s just say her facial expressions were… off. Sometimes it was just awkward.
- Xuan Lie (Song Wei Long): He’s the tough general with a soft side. Song Wei Long looks the part, but his acting was a bit wooden. Oh, and the “wolf” look? More like an “eagle” with that nose makeup.
- The Supporting Cast: Now, these guys? They were the real MVPs. Shao Qi Min, Luo Zhi Zhou, and especially Princess Xuan Qing Kou (she was supposed to be annoying, and she nailed it!). And shoutout to Luo Qi, Xuan Lie’s sidekick, he was awesome. But Jun Yu Jue? He was so over-the-top evil, it was almost comical.
The Music: A Pleasant Surprise!
The soundtrack? Actually pretty good! It really added to the emotional scenes, which is more than I can say for some of the plot.
My Final Thoughts: Clichés and Confusion
“Everlasting Longing” is full of those classic drama tropes: falling off cliffs, cross-dressing, forced marriages. It’s like they threw every clichĂ© in a blender. The story jumps around, and the logic? Yeah, that took a vacation. Jun Qi Luo splitting up her family for “peace”? Huh? And the ending timeline? Don’t even get me started.
The chemistry between the leads was… lacking. Song Wei Long was trying, but Angelababy? Not so much.
But hey, the sets were gorgeous, and the supporting cast was fantastic.
Who Should Watch This?
If you’re a die-hard Angelababy or Song Wei Long fan, or you just love a good cheesy romance, you might find something to enjoy. But if you’re looking for a deep, well-written story? Maybe skip this one. It’s more of a “turn your brain off and enjoy the pretty visuals” kind of drama.

The business is booming making her male persona a household name far and wide.
