Life, Laundry, and Low-Carb Snacks: My Resident Playbook Deep Dive
If you’ve been hanging out here on the blog for a while, you know that my “me time” usually involves a face mask, a quiet house after Xavy finally falls asleep, and a solid K-Drama. Recently, I’ve been chasing that Hospital Playlist high, and let me tell you, Resident Playbook delivered exactly what my tired mom-heart needed.
Nagduha-duha ko at first. I mean, how do you top the Lacking 5? But this spin-off isn’t trying to be a twin; it’s more like the younger, slightly more chaotic sibling.
The New Kids on the Block
Instead of the seasoned professors we know and love, we’re following four first-year residents in the OBGYN department. And sus, the stress is real!
Kim Sa Bi: They call her the “Android.” She knows every textbook by heart but struggles with the “people” part. Watching her learn empathy is one of the best arcs in the show.
Oi Young: She’s the one I wanted to hug the most. She’s brilliant but has so much self-doubt because of her past. Watching her find her footing reminded me of my first year of blogging—doubting if anyone would even read this, but pushing through anyway.
Pyo Nam Gyeong: My spirit animal! She’s the “Drama Queen” who loves shopping but has a heart of gold. Mao gyud ni akoa—I might spend too much time looking at dog clothes online, but I cry at every single “abandoned animal” video I see.
Um Jae Il: The “Energizer Bunny.” He’s a former idol, so the visuals are 10/10, but he’s so scared of making mistakes. It’s a good reminder that even when we look like we have it all together, we’re all just winging it.
Why It Hits Different
The drama is a “dazzling sunset.” It starts a bit slow, but once it gets going, it’s beautiful and addictive. It’s not about crazy villains or medical miracles; it’s about the small, human moments.
As a mom, the OBGYN setting naturally tugs at the heartstrings. It brought back all those memories of ultrasound appointments and the nervous excitement of the delivery room. It reminded me that doctors are human too—they get tired, they second-guess themselves, and they need a good laugh with friends to survive the day.
The Verdict
If you loved the warmth of Hospital Playlist, you’ll find it here. The cameos from the original cast are just the cherry on top, and the OST is already on my “Cooking Dinner” playlist.
It’s a “feel-good” watch that teaches us that it’s okay to be a beginner. Whether you’re a first-year resident or a mom trying to figure out a toddler’s tantrum, we’re all just learning as we go. Laban lang jud!
