Okay, so I just finished “Lovely Runner,” and I’m so conflicted! My friends hyped this drama up like crazy so I went in with sky-high expectations, but it ended up being a bit of a rollercoaster.
Let’s start with the good stuff: this drama is seriously charming. The first few episodes were pure rom-com gold, with all the classic tropes done in a fresh and fun way. The chemistry between the leads, Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye Yoon, was off the charts from the very first scene. They nailed the romance, the comedy, the everything. I was grinning like an idiot throughout most of the show.
But then… things took a turn. The plot went from “intriguing” to “what is even happening?” The time travel rules were basically nonexistent, the villain was about as interesting as a wet sock, and the whole thing felt a bit messy.
And don’t even get me started on the side characters. Kim Tae Sung and Baek In Hyuk were adorable, but they barely got any screen time! And that whole supporting couple storyline? Totally unnecessary. It felt like they were just trying to fill time with flashbacks and filler scenes.
So, what worked?
- The Chemistry: Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye Yoon were absolute magic together. They made me believe in love, even when the plot was making me question my sanity.
- The Comedy: This drama had me laughing out loud. The humor was so down-to-earth and relatable, and it perfectly balanced out the more angsty moments.
- The Soundtrack: Seriously, the music was amazing! “Sudden Shower” is officially my new go-to heartbreak anthem.
- The Visuals: Everything looked gorgeous, from the set design to the lighting. This drama was a feast for the eyes.
And what didn’t?
- The Plot: It started out strong but quickly went off the rails. The time travel aspect was poorly explained, the mystery was weak, and the whole thing felt a bit disjointed.
- The Character Development: The main characters were cute, but they felt a bit flat. I wanted to see more depth and complexity, especially from Seon Jae. He was basically just “the perfect boyfriend,” which, let’s be honest, is kinda boring.
- The Pacing: The drama felt stretched out. They could have easily cut it down to 12 episodes and focused on the strengths of the show: the romance and the comedy.
Overall:
Despite its flaws, I still enjoyed “Lovely Runner.” It’s a light and fluffy watch with some genuinely heartwarming moments. But if you’re looking for a drama with a strong plot and complex characters, you might be a bit disappointed.
Would I recommend it? Hmm… It’s a tough one. If you’re in the mood for something fun and easy to watch, go for it. But if you’re looking for a truly great drama, this one might not be it.
