Subtitle: Survival Guide for Sci-Hi Exam Week and the Full-Remote Shift
If you’ve been following my recent “system logs,” you know my life recently underwent a major server migration. After getting retrenched from my IT Manager office job last January, I’ve transitioned into a fully online workspace. No more office commutes—just me, my laptop, my OnlineJobs.ph and Upwork dashboards, and the unpredictable WiFi of the province.
This week, the “Triple Life” load is particularly heavy. Xavy is in Grade 7 at Dumaguete Science High School, and it’s his 4th Periodical Exam week. If you know Sci-Hi, you know the “processing power” required is intense. Between his late-night study sessions and my back-to-back remote deliverables, our household CPU is running at 99%.
As a Happy Pessimist, I know that if I don’t schedule a “System Reboot,” I’m going to crash before our Australia trip this April. I’ve already been double-checking our documents using my own guide to applying for an Australian Visa for Filipino Tourists, but even the best-planned trip won’t happen if the pilot (that’s me!) burns out first.
Here are the 5 KDramas I’m using to clear my cache this week:
1. The “Stress-Test” Healer: Genie, Make a Wish (2025)
Watching Suzy and Kim Woo Bin is my version of a high-speed defragmentation. When I’m stressed about Xavy’s Sci-Hi exams or my transition to full-time OnlineJobs.ph work, this show reminds me that even when things feel “Uncontrollably Fond,” there’s always a way to patch the system.
2. The “Remote Work” Fantasy: Startup
Moving from a stable office job to being a full-time “Digital Nomad” mom feels like being in a startup every day. It reminds me that “bugs” in the plan are just opportunities for a better version 2.0. In fact, most of my “Happy Pessimism” is built on the idea that anything that can go wrong will go wrong, so you might as well have a good drama to watch while you fix it.
3. The “Sci-Hi” Comfort: Crash Course in Romance
This is for any parent whose child is in a competitive school like Dumaguete Science. It captures the “intensity” of exam week perfectly. When I’m quizzing Xavy on his Grade 7 science modules, I feel like I’m in a drama myself. This show helps me laugh at the chaos of the hardware vs. software struggle of parenting.
4. The “Travel Prep” Daydream: Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
Since we are prepping for our Australia trip, I’ve been craving “vacation vibes.” This show is a “System Restore” for my soul. It reminds me that life in the province is beautiful, even when the transition to full-time remote work feels like a major system shock.
5. The “Logic” Reboot: Coroner’s Diary (2025)
When my “nonsense thoughts” start whispering that I shouldn’t have been retrenched, I watch this CDrama. It’s all about facts and evidence. The Evidence: I am now fully remote, I have more time for Xavy during his exams, and we are headed to Australia soon. I’ve even managed to keep our finances stable by knowing how to apply for an SSS salary loan when the “retrenchment” first hit.
Running the Reboot
Treating your “nonsense thoughts” during a high-pressure week requires you to intentionally “force quit” your work brain. Whether it’s through a 16-episode arc or a quick walk with the furbabies, make sure you aren’t running too many programs at once.
Are you currently in “Exam Mode” or “Work Mode”? What’s your go-to show for a system reboot? Let’s talk in the comments!
