Getting a DFA passport appointment in the Philippines is not as simple as choosing a date and showing up. The online system opens and closes without much warning, slots fill quickly, and a single typo in your booking details means starting over. If you have been trying to get an appointment and keep missing the window, this guide explains how the system works and what to do to secure a slot.
Walk-in appointments – who qualifies and who does not.
Walk-ins are not accepted at regular DFA offices unless you fall into one of the priority categories: senior citizens (60 and above), persons with disability, pregnant women, and OFWs with an active overseas employment contract. Everyone else must book online. There are no exceptions for urgency outside these categories – even if your travel date is close, you need a confirmed online appointment unless you qualify under the priority lanes.
How to book a DFA passport appointment online.
- Go to the official DFA appointment portal at passport.gov.ph/appointment
- Read the Terms and Conditions carefully before agreeing – there are reminders about document requirements embedded here
- Choose Individual or Group Appointment (use Group if booking for family members to secure adjacent time slots)
- Select your Regional Consular Office (RCO) – branches slightly outside Metro Manila often have more available slots
- Choose your preferred date and time
- Fill in the applicant’s personal details accurately – name, date of birth, civil status, address
- Enter your emergency contact information
- Confirm the appointment and pay the passport processing fee through an authorized payment center
- Check your email for the confirmation link – you must click it within 15 to 30 minutes or the slot is released
- Print the appointment confirmation form and bring it on your appointment day
One important note: the appointment details are not editable after confirmation. A typo in a name or date means you need to rebook – which means losing the slot and starting over. Take your time filling in the form.
When slots are available and how to catch them.
DFA passport appointment slots are released in batches, typically in the early morning. There is no publicly announced release schedule, which is why many people miss them. Checking the portal at 12 midnight, 6 AM, and 9 AM on weekdays gives you a better chance of finding open slots. If you need a specific branch, try checking branches in other cities – Cebu, Davao, and regional consular offices sometimes have slots when Metro Manila offices are fully booked.
The DFA strongly discourages the use of fixers or third-party booking services. Using these services carries personal risk and offers no guarantee – the DFA system is the only official channel, and there is no workaround that the DFA authorizes.
Passport processing fees and types.
Payment is made through the DFA ePayment Portal as part of the booking process, using authorized payment centers, selected banks, or online payment channels. The two processing options are:
- Regular processing – passport released at the DFA office where you applied; time varies
- Expedited processing – faster release, higher fee; available at most offices
- Courier delivery – adds 10 to 15 working days on top of processing time; convenient if you cannot return to the DFA office
What to bring on your appointment day.
For a new passport application: printed appointment confirmation, PSA-issued birth certificate (the one with the QR code), and one valid government-issued ID. For renewal: printed confirmation, current or expiring passport, and photocopy of the data page. Standard passport renewals no longer require a birth certificate unless your current passport is an old non-e-passport version (brown, green, or machine-readable maroon).
